Please note: I mention that 7 generations is an important philosophy in many Indigenous communities because it is believed that that is how long trauma lasts within a community. This is a gross oversimplification that focuses on the negative. The 7 generation philosophy also includes the length of time it takes to pass down traditions, stories, and other aspects of culture. Resonant Trio

PLEASE NOTE: The audio does get fairly piercing at points, be ready to adjust your volume. Resonant Trio by: Omar Shabbar This instrument composition was made for the Interactive Sonic Arts program at York University under the guidance and instruction of Prof. Doug Van Nort at the DisPerSion Lab. Constructed during the pandemic, this performance was filmed with the Ricoh Theta 360 camera to emulate a more immersive performance experience. Once safe to do so, this instrument will be reconstructed and performed for a live audience as it was intended. Prepared Response

Prepared Response is a newly created experimental instrument by musician and composer Omar Shabbar. This instrument is composed of two main components or modules: a prepared guitar, which is actively played by the performer, and a passive, adaptive granular synthesizer agent, that listens and responds to an audio input. These two modules are combined to form one larger instrument, with the purpose of exploring different forms of interactivity through sonic relationships. Covering themes of reimagining conventional instruments, new instrument making through audio recording manipulation, microsound, randomness, virtual agency, and interactivity, Prepared Response is a multivoiced, dynamic instrument that can adapt to many different performance scenarios.
